“Generally, by the time you are real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joins and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.” –The Velveteen Rabbit
Don’t you just love that quote? I do. Children’s stories are so great.
Today I spent some time in the children’s section of a bookstore reading Love You Forever by Sheila McGraw–that story has always been one of my favorites. I decided I want to write a children’s book that not only little children will enjoy but also adults.
Just for fun here is a list of my other favorites:
- Goodnight Moon
- The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes
- Blueberries for Sal
- Miss Rumphius
- The Giving Tree
- Make Way for Ducklings
- The Tale of Peter Rabbit
- A New Coat for Anna
