What a wonderful day it is to reflect on our blessings and thank God—the one who gave us all we have. I hope today brings you joy and comfort, even to those of you who are in the midst of sorrow.
Yesterday my family and I attended a funeral for a beautiful two year old girl who was the picture of delight and joy during her 26 months in her earthly home. She loved her parents, her baby brother, bubble baths, blueberries, chocolate chips, and playing with the lonely children she saw at the park. Just a week before she died her daddy took her for a walk to gather leaves, on the walk he explained to her how she was a blessing. Once she walked in the door of her home and saw her mommy she exclaimed “I am a blessing!” Oh, what truth that is. We don’t deserve blessings, we didn’t earn them, but they’re given to us as gifts. There are always blessings to set our focus on, no matter our life story, so let’s live with hearts of gratitude… not just today but each day of the year. Maybe then our hearts would sing the phrase little Lucy was remembered well for “I so happy!”
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
–1 Thessalonians 5:18
So far today I’ve slept in, vacuumed the house, and had a nice talk with my mom and sister about what Thanksgiving means. At lunchtime we’ll welcome in my older sister and her little family, my aunt and uncle with their kids and my grandma. It’s good to have family gather for a day like today! Maybe this afternoon we’ll be able to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade we’ve recorded and play some games together in the living room… and then there are always the baby kittens to go visit in the barn. 🙂
Have a great day everyone!
